Autumn and winter weddings: silk and cashmere stoles and accessories for a cold-season ceremony
How to dress the bride, the guests, the groom and the groomsmen when the wedding falls between November and February, and what to give the guests.
Getting married between November and February has a charm the warm months do not know. The low light, the lit interiors, the heavy fabrics, the tables laid indoors. A winter wedding calls for different choices in everything, and silk accessories are part of those choices from the very first moment.
The question the bride, the groom and the wedding planner ask is a concrete one: how to keep elegance and warmth together. A ceremony dress often leaves the shoulders bare; a church or a villa in January is not always heated as one would wish; the outdoor photographs, in front of a lake or a bare garden, remain among the most beautiful and among the coldest.
At Seterie Mosconi we answer that question with the fabrics of the Como district: silk, its derivatives, cashmere blends. In Lipomo we have been producing wedding accessories for three generations, with the same care we give to the collections of fashion houses. The cold season is, for us, one of the most interesting, because it allows us to work with richer materials and deeper colours.
Here we cover the ceremony stole for the bride and the female guests, the colours and designs suited to the season, the accessories for the groom and groomsmen, the textile favours that keep guests warm, and the timing that makes deciding easier.

Marrying in the cold season: what changes for the accessories
In summer a ceremony accessory is an ornament. In winter it also becomes a necessity, and that changes how it is chosen. The stole has to warm, the tie has to sit well under an overcoat, the favour has to make sense in a month when guests go home into the cold.
The materials change. The light silk of June weddings gives way to heavy silk, to twill, to the silk-cashmere blend, which joins the light of the first to the warmth of the second. For the men, silk-wool and silk-cashmere come into the ties too, with a fuller hand and a rounder knot.
The colours change. The pale, dusty palettes of the warm months give way to deep tones: warm ivory, burgundy, forest green, midnight blue, bronze, with gold or silver accents for evening ceremonies. A silk accessory in these tones catches the light of candles and chandeliers, and in indoor photographs it gives back more than any pastel.
The pace changes, finally. Couples marrying in January or February organise in the autumn, often within a few weeks, and need a textile partner that follows everything in house. The selection of fabrics, printing, hemming and packaging take place in our workshop, and that makes lead times predictable.

The ceremony stole: silk and cashmere for the bride and the guests
The silk ceremony stole is the accessory that solves the winter wedding. It covers the shoulders during the ceremony and the outdoor photographs, comes off with a single gesture at the reception, and accompanies the dress without hiding it. In heavy pure silk it has a luminous drape; in silk-cashmere it adds the warmth a December church demands.
For the bride the stole is designed alongside the dress. The colour can pick up the white or ivory of the gown, or introduce a tone that flatters it: a warmer ivory, a deep blush, a pale gold. The format follows the silhouette, in sizes ranging from the narrow, long stole worn over the arms to the ample shawl that wraps the shoulders. The hand-rolled hem and any fringing are the details that show in close-up photographs.
For the female guests, the bridesmaids and the mothers of the couple, the stole is the gift that makes most sense in the cold season. A set of coordinated stoles, in the same fabric and in different colours, or in one colour for the bridesmaids, gives unity to the group photographs and solves the problem of the cold for everyone. It is also a gift people keep and wear for years, unlike many ceremony objects.
Personalisation stays discreet: the couple’s initials and the date embroidered in a corner, a woven label with their names, a printed motif that picks up the theme of the wedding. The options are described on the personalised wedding accessories page.

Colours and designs for a ceremony between November and February
The palette of a winter wedding comes from the settings in which it takes place: interiors, wood, candles, heavy fabrics, artificial light. In that context deep colours work better than pale ones, and silk renders them with a brilliance no other fabric possesses.
The combinations we propose most often are few and safe. Ivory with bronze, for a warm, luminous ceremony. Burgundy with gold, for an evening reception. Forest green with ivory, for a wedding in a villa or in the mountains. Midnight blue with silver, for a city ceremony in December. In each, the bride’s stole, the men’s ties and the favours follow the same family of colours.
On designs, winter allows richer motifs than summer advises: foliage, dense geometries, tone-on-tone jacquard weaves that give depth to the surface without adding colour. Our design team builds the motif from the theme of the wedding and carries it across stole, tie, pocket square and favour, so that every accessory belongs to the same project.
One piece of advice we always give: choose the colours looking at a sample in the light the ceremony will be held in. A burgundy seen on a screen and a burgundy in silk under warm light are two different colours. Our workshop prepares printing and weaving proofs for that very comparison.

Groom and groomsmen: ties and pocket squares for the cold season
For the men, too, winter changes the rules. The light silk tie of summer weddings gives way to fuller fabrics: silk-wool, with a matt, structured surface, and silk-cashmere, soft and warm. Both hold a full knot and pair with the heavy cloths of a winter morning suit.
The groom stands out from the groomsmen through a variation, not a change of style. The same palette, a lighter or deeper tone, a jacquard design on his tie alone, initials embroidered at the tip. The groomsmen receive coordinated ties, often with a printed lining carrying the date and the couple’s names: a memory kept inside the accessory without appearing on the outside.
The pocket square completes the set, in silk printed with the wedding motif or in a plain accent colour. Together with the tie it forms a small set that can become the gift for the groomsmen, handed over on the morning of the ceremony. You will find it among the other accessories we produce.
For those who prefer a bow tie, the same choices of fabric and colour apply. And for weddings where the men wear an overcoat, a silk-cashmere scarf in the ceremony colour, given to the groomsmen, is a gift that warms and, in the outdoor photographs, gives unity to the group.

Textile favours that keep guests warm: twillies, pocket squares and scarves
The textile wedding favour has an obvious advantage in the cold season: guests use it straight away. A silk accessory handed over in January accompanies the winter of whoever receives it, and unlike a decorative object it does not end up in a drawer.
For the female guests the twilly remains the most elegant choice: a printed silk ribbon carrying the wedding motif, to be tied at the neck, at the wrist or on a bag. It is light, packs into little space, and printed in house it reproduces initials and date with precision. For the male guests the pocket square in the same design completes the pair.
For a smaller number of guests, or for close family, the favour can become a small silk-cashmere scarf in the ceremony colour, with a woven label carrying the couple’s names. It is a more substantial gift, and for that reason a more remembered one.
The packaging is part of the gift. A box in FSC-certified board, a ribbon in the accent colour, a card with the names and the date: the textile favour arrives at the table ready and gives the reception a visual unity guests notice. The solutions are described on the packaging page.

Timing: marrying in January means deciding in autumn
A winter wedding is organised in autumn, and silk accessories need a process: choosing the fabric, the design, a colour proof, production, finishing and packaging. In our workshop a complete project takes around 30 days, from production to delivery.
That means a couple marrying in January, settling the accessories in October or early November, reaches the ceremony with room to spare. The extra time is not there to avoid delays; it is there to look at a sample, compare two shades of ivory, decide at leisure whether the bride’s stole will have fringes. These are choices that deserve a week’s thought, and autumn grants it.
The wedding planner finds in us a single point of contact for all the textile accessories of the wedding: stoles, ties, pocket squares, twillies, favours, with the same design and the same palette. Following everything in house, from printing to packaging, keeps quality and calendar together.

The cold season, dressed in silk
An autumn or winter wedding calls for accessories that warm and that belong to the scene: the silk and cashmere stole on the bride, coordinated stoles for the guests, silk-wool ties and pocket squares for the groom and groomsmen, twillies and small scarves as favours. A single design and a deep palette hold it all together.
At Seterie Mosconi these accessories are made in the same Como-district workshop where we produce for fashion houses and institutions, with a production chain that runs from the choice of silk to the box. The references page shows who has already chosen Como silk for their day.
